Beauty Basics

Let's start from the beginning, shall we!

Before putting on makeup there are a few simple steps that are a must! First is cleansing, and second is moisturizing.  If you skip these steps you're not doing yourself any favors, and your makeup won't look as good.  Of course you need to figure out your skin type to see which products you should use for each step. I am obsessed with my Detox Cleanser from Kate Somerville and I use it with my Clarisonic EVERY night! My skin is crazy and very acne prone and I love the way this cleanser feels!!  I switch up my moisturizer more often, depending if I feel dry or the weather. I'm really loving First Aid Beauty's Ultra repair face moisturizer, it's very lightweight and my face hasn't been dry!

Now, on to the most common mistake you can make with skincare..

Putting face moisturizer on your eyes!!!!!

I can't tell you how many clients come to me asking to hide their dark circles.  My first question to that is do you use moisturizer? They usually say "yes", then I ask where they apply it. Then they say "everywhere". Big Mistake! Your moisturizer should never go near your eyes, that's what eye cream is for. (And could be why you have dark circles!) Many people think eye cream is for old ladies but you should start using an eye cream around turning 16. There are hundreds of different kinds of eye creams for all different needs. For younger skin my regular go to is the Lotus eye gel by Fresh.  It targets all 3 main concerns which are puffiness, fine lines, and dark circles.

This is perfect placement of where you should apply eye cream!
Be very gentle using your ring finger ,tap and blend till absorbed.

Also, I should explain that the reason why its so horrible to slather moisturizer all over your face. A woman I work with explains it in the best way to understand and this is what I tell my clients. Your eyes are different tissue than the rest of skin on your face.  If you think about it your eye area does not sweat, now by putting moisturizer on that area.. it stays in your pores. Turning dark over time because it has no way of getting out.  Using that eye cream will be a big help breaking it up over time.  Of course dark circles are the hardest thing to get rid of, so if you don't see results in a week don't give up! After a good amount of time, if you don't feel it's doing anything give another cream a try! It really isn't a scam to get you to buy more products, it's a necessity!

If you are a faithful eye cream user, you will thank yourself when you are old!  I hope this helps all of you out there who had no idea you were using moisturizer incorrectly.  If I didn't work at Sephora I wouldn't know this either!  With the Holidays fast approaching, what better gift to give than a Clarisonic or eye cream??
